Join us for the opening of "Mama Palma"!
When: Thursday, 30th November 19:00 -22:00
Where: Denizen Eiswerk
After working on the completion of the photo book 'Mama Palma' for the past two years, the final show before the release is just around the corner. It will feature a mix of older works and previously unreleased images, all of which will be part of the book. The pieces come from Johanna Von Holst’s time in Palma de Mallorca, as well as Southeast Asia. At 'Mama Palma', visitors will have the unique opportunity to acquire some prints of an edition that has never been available before and will only be accessible on this evening.
Join us for a good glass of wine accompanied by some great music and fine art photography!
We can’t wait to see you there!
Johanna von Holst, a Hamburg native, splits her time between Berlin, Munich, and Palma de Mallorca. She discovered her passion for photography at an early age, initially influenced by her father's interest in image-making. She began her photographic journey with analog cameras and soon started creating colorful self-portraits using props from her mother's closet.
Her practice extended to photographing friends and her six younger siblings, honing her skills and cultivating a unique creative approach. After obtaining an Art Direction diploma, Johanna worked for advertising agencies like Ogilvy and R/GA in New York City, where she deepened her technical and theoretical photography skills. Two years of studio work and assisting other photographers further enriched her knowledge.
Johanna's photography spans landscape, fashion, portrait, and self-portraits, with work ranging from fine art prints to online fashion editorials. Her distinctive eye for color and composition drives a multi-layered creative process. Her work has been featured in esteemed publications such as i-D Germany, VICE, Monopol Magazine, Groove Mag, Exberliner Magazine, ZEIT Magazine, ACKUA, and Life Framer.
In recent years, Johanna's work has been exhibited at prestigious events like the Berlin Photo Week at Kraftwerk, the Photo Fair at Westergas in Amsterdam, the Cluster Fair in London, and Art Basel in Miami. In 2020, she was selected for the Fresh Eyes Photo Book, highlighting the "100 greatest emerging photographers of the year." Johanna is currently working on her first photo book, set to be published later this year.
