About the event

In "Wild Blue Sky" R.Drada presents the familiar vision of the skies in a radical way, filtering the limitless blue sky against contemporary obstructions: the limitations of modern life - a grid of practicality which cuts around the corners of human dreams. The origins of these blue skies are taken from American culture, which has long projected a blue sky with optimism, the infinite, and visual metaphor for American branded-freedom. R.Drada complicates these ideas of the blue sky with contorted clouds, wavering lines, and furious impasto strokes, showing that the road to freedom is rife with frustration, which themselves provoke wild and unusual reactions.

About the host

R.Drada (b.1986) is an American artist based in Berlin, Germany. R.Drada was trained at the Art Students League of New York. The works of R.Drada have been published in Horizon Magazine, The Purposeful Mayonnaise and other publications. R.Drada has exhibited her works within the U.S. and Europe. The work of R.Drada is inspired by the life of ideals as they visually evidence frustrations with the common corruptions of regular life, with special focus on how the ideals can suffer within American culture. Common themes that appear in her works are: greed, conflict, rebellion, anger, as well as the violence and aggression. R.Drada is motivated to create images that can speak to conflicts between the individual seeking ideals vs. a larger system or culture. Crafting images that capture intensely-held feelings is both a relief for the sympathetic viewer & amp; the artist but also provides reinforcement of the importance and dignity of these emotions. The artist believes that preserving specific emotions, especially those with political roots, is important in uniting like-minded people within an image that rings true.
